Destination

The county of Neath Port Talbot also known as The Dramatic Heart of Wales, with many attractions in the area, from hiking to visiting historic sites, an abundance of beaches and idilic waterfalls to explore you'll surely have a memorable experience!

Afan & The Vale of Neath

The Dramatic Heart of Wales is a place of extreme diversity, where urban east meets rural west of Wales. Valleys and coast, waterfalls and waves, beauty and grit, all combine to form an unexpected and unforgettable experience.

Our coastal and valleys landscapes are best appreciated by getting out of the car and seeing for yourself what makes our area unique. Mountain biking, cycling, walking and surfing all come highly recommended as the best ways to experience the natural and industrial contrasts that shape our area.

Neath Port Talbot is located right at the centre of South Wales which makes our area a perfect base for exploring our entire region.

Picture lush, grassy countryside, a dramatic landscape punctuated by waterfalls – and some of the most adrenalin charged mountain biking in the

We call it ‘Waterfall Country’, and with good reason.  The Neath Valley has some of Wales’ finest waterfalls hidden away in green gorges. Sgwd yr Eira (which means ‘the fall of snow’ in Welsh), is a waterfall you can walk behind without getting (too) wet!  Bring your walking boots and your sense of adventure – you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on the set of ‘The Hobbit’!

You can find out how all this water-power was put to good use at the National Trust’s Aberdulais Tin Works and Waterfall, where you can see Europe’s largest generating waterwheel in action.  One just like it has been going strong in Aberdulais since 1584!

Hiking from the doorstep

Dyffryn Woods

We are situated on Drumau mountain and Dyffryn Woods. It is one of the largest ancient woodland sites in Wales, clings to the side of the Mynydd Drumau, with breathtaking views over the valley and coast.

Once part of an old country estate, Dyffryn Woods features an extensive network of paths to follow and a wealth of wildlife to discover, making it a delightful place to visit all year round.

Situated on the east of Mynydd Drumau, the woodland rises to 260 metres, giving excellent views over the Neath Basin, Bristol Channel, Swansea Bay and, on a clear day, across to the Gower Peninsula.
